The EDGE program is an initiative of the Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa
Works strategy implemented by a consortium of partners led by Hybrid Designs
PLC and Partners including Qua Qua Capitals and R&D Group. The program plans to enable over 300,000 financially disadvantaged young women and men (10% disadvantaged youth) to access dignified and fulfilling work opportunities in the outsourcing industry.

EDGE (Entrepreneurship in the Digital and Gig Economy ) is a national initiative
that equips youth, especially young women, with the relevant skills, tools, and
opportunities needed to succeed in the digital, outsourcing and freelancing
economy.
You can apply if you:
- Are between the ages of 15–35
- Are unemployed or underemployed
- Have basic digital literacy (or willingness to learn)
- Are committed to completing the training
- Priority is given to women, persons with disabilities, displaced people, and youth from underserved regions.
No. The EDGE program is delivered at no cost to participants. However, participants must be committed to finishing the program and that is how they will obtain access to work opportunities.
You will receive training in:
- Digital literacy
- Soft skills (employability skills (eg. communication, professionalism, time
management etc) - Technical skills depending on track (e.g., virtual assistance, content writing, graphic design)
The core training typically runs between4 to 8 weeks, depending on the learning track. After training, you will receive job placement support.
Yes. We support you with:
- Creating freelancer profiles
- Securing gigs and clients online
- Connecting with outsourcing firms
- Creating opportunities to engage in in local or remote job placement prospects
Access to a device and the internet is helpful. However, EDGE working spaces located across different cities across Ethiopia and partner hubs provide support to participants who don’t have access.
EDGE is active in multiple cities across Ethiopia, and is expanding. Check the application page for updates on locations.
